Chemistry with Katie

Last term I did chemistry with Katie. We used red cabbage water to test if certain household items were an acid or a base.  We got to choose what we wanted to test.  The options were... lemon juice, milk, hand sanitiser, vinegar, baking soda, tomato juice, dish washing liquid or tea.  I chose tea.  If the substance was an acid, the cabbage water would turn PINK.  If the substance was a base, the cabbage water would turn BLUE.  When I tested the tea, it did not change the cabbage water to pink, or blue - it just went a brown colour!  To find out if tea was an acid or a base, I used a piece of litmus paper and compared the colour with the pH Scale.  The litmus paper went GREEN - that means tea is a NEUTRAL, which is probably why we can drink it! It was fun and easy to do.

My mosaic

This is my mosaic .
This be took me 4 weeks to make. For the first few weeks we looked at and learnt about mosaics . The next week we thought of ideas for our mosaics and drew our design. After that we were bashing tiles, sticking them on and grouting . This is my finished project .Making mosaics was really fun.

Mosaics

For the last few weeks I have been working on art talent development which is mosaics.  The first few weeks we were finding out about mosaics.  We watched a video of how to make a mosaic and planned our design. For the last  couple of weeks we have been bashing up tiles for our mosaic pictures and sticking them on with adhesive to our base tile.  So far I am really enjoying mosaic art.   I found the image of this bee on the Internet.  I will update my blog with a photo of my finished mosaic, which is also going to be a bee!  Bee happy!

Gifted Week

This week is Gifted Week. Gifted to me is when you are above average with you abilities and you are talented in different areas.  At Enrich, I get to work with children who are like minded.  They challenge me to do my very best.  I get lots of cool opportunities for different types of learning at Enrich.
